A family fun day helped raise almost £2,000 for the Wakefield and District Down’s Syndrome Support Group.

Around 3,000 people attended the event at Nostell Priory last Saturday.

There was something for everyone with a mascot race, dog display, land train, penalty shoot out, bouncy castle, face painting, dance displays, rock choirs, fairground games and more.

Group secretary, Andrea Arnold, said: “It was a fantastic day and we raised more than last year, which is fabulous. This was our fourth fun day and it continues to go from strength to strength. We had a great turnout despite the weather and everyone really enjoyed it.”

The Wakefield and District Down’s Syndrome Support group has been running since August 2000. It is run by parents and carers of people with Down’s syndrome and aims to provide a support network, information and fun activities for people with Down’s syndrome, their families and friends.

The group runs a Saturday Club at the Sunbeam Children’s Centre, in Lupset, which provides a relaxed environment for people to get together, have a cuppa and chat to others in a similar situation to themselves.

It also has a gymnastic club, runs events and trips, and also provides training and information.

It recently became a charity. To make a donation text WDSG21 and either £1, £2, £3, £4, £5 or £10 to 70070.
