Youngsters’ visions for a proposed new swimming pool in the south east of the district are now on display in Hemsworth.

Minsthorpe Pool Action Group (MPAG) challenged schoolchildren to come up with a drawing, painting, computer design or model of what they want the facility to look like.

Each school chose four finalists and these entries have been put together to form an exhibition, which went on display at The Grove in South Kirkby earlier this week.

The exhibition is now at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre, Bullenshaw Road, until Saturday, June 21.

It will then go to Upton Village Hall, Harewood Lane, from Sunday, June 22, to Tuesday, June 24, and the Westfield Centre, Westfield Lane, South Elmsall, from Wednesday, June 25 to Friday, June 27.

The public display will finish at Ackworth Community Centre, Bell Lane, from June 28 to 30.

The competition was entered by youngsters from 12 local schools, including Grove Lea Primary in Hemsworth, Moorthorpe J&I School, Badsworth J&I School, Sacred Heart Catholic School in Hemsworth, Upton J&I School, Ash Grove J&I School, South Elmsall, and Bell Lane Primary in Ackworth.

It was organised by MPAG members to mark the one year anniversary of Minsthorpe Pool’s closure in April.

The children’s entries could be incorporated into the new pool, possibly as wall or floor tiles.

All the venues are open to the public but opening times will vary and should be checked in advance.
