Viking re-enactments, music and a fireworks finale are all part of a summer events at Pontefract Castle.
A picnic in the castle event will offer children’s activities, pop classics, Viking re-enactments and a chance to enjoy a picnic with the family. The event takes places from 11am to 4pm on Saturday, July 12. It has been organised by Wakefield Council, in partnership with Pontefract Heritage Group.
A proms in the castle event will begin at 7pm on the same day. The West Yorkshire Symphony orchestra will provide classical music from Carmen and Swan Lake. The day will end with a fireworks display.
Coun Les Shaw, cabinet member for culture, leisure and sport, said: “The Proms in the Castle is a fantastic family day out and has quickly become one of the ‘jewels in the crown’.
“The programme of music this year should offer something for everyone and I encourage everyone to come and enjoy summer in the castles and buy their tickets now – as seats are strictly limited.”
The proms event costs £6 for adults and £4 for children in advance and £8 for adults and £6 for children on the gates. Tickets are available from Pontefract Castle, Pontefract Museum, Sandal Castle, Wakefield Visitor Centre and online at www.wakefield.gov.uk/castleevents
