A South Elmsall artist has handed over two of his paintings to be hung in his former school.
Norman Wright, from the Kickstart Art group, presented two watercolours to the Mayor of South Elmsall, Coun Jack Thomas, to be put in the hall of the Westfield Centre. The presentation ceremony was attended by members of South Elmsall Town Council, which runs the centre, and members of the art group.
The Westfield Lane centre was formerly South Elmsall County Secondary Modern School, where Norman studied as a child until he left in 1962.
The paintings feature scenes from a farm in Holmfirth and at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park.
Ann Burkes, of the Kickstart Art Group, said: “We decided as a group that we would like to donate some paintings to the Westfield Centre for community benefit. When Norman said he used to go to the school I said it should be his paintings.
“The building is now a community centre but the old school hall has been kept so it is nice that a former pupil has his paintings in there.
“I think it was very poignant for Norman.”
The art group meets at the Westfield Social Centre, also on Westfield Lane, every Thursday from 10am until noon.
The sessions provide a relaxed approach to art and are run on a self help basis.
