I WAS amazed to read in a local, daily newspaper that Wakefield Council was championing its recent snow clearing efforts.
It brought a smile of cynicism to my face, which was quickly followed by me choking on a biscuit as I read the following information from Wakefield Council:
“We are also pleased that three of our parish councils in Hemsworth, South Elmsall and South Kirkby have helped by clearing roads in their own areas, which are not included in our priority gritting routes.”
I am sure that Hemsworth residents will be asking when and where did this miracle occur?
I remember seeing - more than once - employees from a major bank clearing a wide footpath from the Post Office up to their bank.
All around Cross Hill and up past the Grange Surgery was icy and hazardous for days.
This is an election year for Hemsworth Town Council so I am sure that if any significant snow clearance and gritting had been sanctioned by our town council, they would not have missed a photoshoot and trumpet blowing opportunity.
