LETTERS - Facilities set us back

I WOULD like to respond to Graham West’s letter and thank him and the rest of Hemsworth Town Council for putting Hemsworth Junior football back 25 years with its facilities.

Hemsworth Terriers played football on the complex now sold for building, it had full size and junior grass pitches, lighting round the large and small pitches, changing rooms and dug outs. The children were safe and secure and proud of their facilities, we still hosted finals for the Charles Rice league in 2010.

Sandygate Lane, the new facilities provided by the council, has no junior grass pitch for under 10’s boys and girls to play on just astro turf which the Terriers can pay £45 per game to use if they wish.

The Terriers has 10 boys and three girls teams and needs all the help and encouragement they can get not to be kicked in the teeth by the council.

As for Coun West’s comments about letting the children play at Sandygate, they already are because there are big holes in the fence.

Paul Appleton,

Hemsworth Terriers JFC Secretary
