A junior football club has scored a cash windfall thanks to the Asda Yorkshire XDC Community Fund .

South Kirkby Knights picked up £100 courtesy of the fund, run in conjunction with the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express.

The club, which trains at Northfield Primary School and Minsthorpe Community College, runs teams from under 7s to open age.

They were nominated by under 12s coach John Barnes and the money will be used to help with the club’s running costs.

Mr Barnes said: “We’re pleased to win, we’re having a meeting this week to decide the best way to use the money.”

The community fund gives £100 to a group, charity or organisation in the south east of the district every month throughout the year.

To nominate a group for the fund, email gemma.jimmison@ ywng.co.uk or write to Gemma Jimmison at First Floor, Bullring House, 23 Northgate, Wakefield, WF1 3BJ.

A group representative must be able to get to the Asda Distribution Centre, Elmsall Way, South Elmsall, to collect the money and have a photograph taken.

The fund is open to any club, charity or organisation in the south east, providing they have a bank account for the group.

For more information, email gemma.jimmison@ywng.co.uk or call Mrs Jimmison on 01924 433013.
