CREATIVE children could have their artwork displayed at the Hepworth gallery after a school sculpture workshop.

Year six pupils at Grove Lea Primary used willow to create giant Olympic-themed sculptures of volleyball players in a session with the Faceless theatre company.

Headteacher Jennifer McNichol said: “The children worked in teams to design different body parts and were amazed when the sculptures were put together. They thrived on the atmosphere and described the experience as amazing.”

Their work in the Spirit of the Olympics project was in an exhibition yesterday with work from 12 other schools.

Some of the sculptures will be chosen for display at the Hepworth gallery on Monday, June 25, when the Olympic Torch comes to the city.
