Castleford Tigers’ performance against Hull has put a marker down for the team to aim for every week, according to head coach Daryl Powell.

The Tigers boss was pleased with every player’s contribution in the 30-16 win over the league leaders and wants them to maintain this level of performance on a consistent basis now.

He told the Express: “It was a really good performance for 60 minutes, particularly the first 40 when I thought we were outstanding.

“It was probably our best defensive 40 minutes of the season. Our line speed was great, our management of contacts, we were aggressive, our a and b defenders were great off the line.

“We had a period where we lost our way a little bit, but overall it was an excellent effort defensively.

“It was a great win for us and it set us a yardstick for how we should be performing on a weekly basis.

“We’ve got a standard now and it’s about sticking to it consistently. We’re playing all the best sides obviously and we need to deliver regularly.

“Being able to back that up against Wigan this week is absolutely key.”

Powell picked out Adam Milner for special praise, but could not find fault in any of his side’s efforts at Hull.

He said: “I really like what Adam Milner’s doing at the moment. He’s doing quite a lot of things that go unseen and his work is probably one of the main reasons our defensive work has improved, just his toughness, getting round the field and hitting people hard.

“Paul McShane was also really good when he came on.

“Greg Minikin has stepped up two levels and to be able to do what he’s done is excellent. His finishing has proved to be top quality over the last few weeks.

“Everybody really contributed well. Lee Jewitt when he came off the bench and Grant Millington was outstanding - our whole pack was excellent.

“Luke Gale’s kicking in the first half was outstanding, Luke Dorn’s attacking play in creating opportunities was great and Rangi Chase contributed significantly. Ryan Hampshire finished well, Denny Solomona’s contribution– you go through the team and everybody was excellent. That’s what we need.

“I said to the guys in the review ‘boys you all did your jobs so well’ and that’s what it’s all about, we’re always talking about doing your individual job well ,which makes the collective unit so effective.”
