Community groups are set to benefit from a new fund after the Express teamed up with the Asda Distribution Centre in South Elmsall.
The Asda Yorkshire XDC Community Fund, in conjunction with the Hemsworth and South Elmsall Express, will give £100 to a local group every month throughout the year.
The scheme has been launched following the success of the Express 100 Community Fund, which took place throughout 2013 to mark the centenary year of the newspaper.
The fund helped 11 local groups, including the Beth’s Angels Fund, the Havercroft and Ryhill Darby and Joan club, the SESKU Festival Committee and the South Elmsall Town Centre Partnership.
Gemma Jimmison, co-ordinator of the fund at the Express, said: “We are delighted to have teamed up with Asda once again. Community groups will benefit massively from the new fund and we are pleased that we can keep on helping.
“We are very grateful to Asda’s general manager Nigel Price and community life champion Angie Spencer for making this possible. We look forward to receiving the first applications.”
Mr Price said: “Last year was a great success and we wanted to continue to build on that. It is the right thing to do as a distribution centre.
“Asda as a company always has a national charity but we like to do things on a local level to help the community that we are in as well. It is important to us that we are helping the local people who support us and this is one way of doing that.”
