CLASSIC movie themes will be given a modern touch of class by the SoundPower Orchestra at Theatre Royal Wakefield later this month.

Music from big screen classics James Bond, Harry Potter, Star Wars, Rocky and Mamma Mia will be among the tunes belted out by the orchestra when it presents A Night At The Movies.

Featuring 35 of the north east of England’s most talented freelance musicians and singers, the Soundpower Orchestra has a professional contemporary sound.

Musical director , George Hastings is a local composer and conductor who with his creative partner, actor, writer and former Dr Who, Colin Baker,  heads the media production company, Songs ‘n’ Stuff. They produce music, songs, lyrics and jingles for TV, theatre and radio.

The SoundPower orchestra have been riding on a new wave of popularity in and are attracting a whole new generation of fans.

Mr Hastings said: “If you’re a fan of X Factor you’ve probably noticed that the most popular week in the series is big band week.

“In actual fact it’s not a big band supporting the singers, it’s an orchestra. The SoundPower Orchestra is that kind of orchestra.”

The show takes place on Saturday, February 26.
