Hemsworth footballer John Stones has been included in Roy Hodgson’s provisional 26-man England squad for this summer’s European Championships.
The Everton and former Barnsley star has endured a tough season in the Premier League, but is seen as a key player for England in future years and is rated good enough now by the manager to be one of only three central defenders picked in the squad, the others being Chris Smalling and Gary Cahill.
England are now set to play three warm-up games when 21-year-old Stones will get the chance to add to add to the eight caps he already has, starting this Sunday against Turkey. They then face Australia and Portugal before going to France to start their Euros campaign against Russia on Saturday, June 11.
Hodgson’s men also face Wales and Slovakia in the group stage.
So long as he comes through the warm-ups okay Stones looks certain to travel with the England squad for what will be his first major tournament after he narrowly missed out on the World Cup two years ago.
