A COLLEGE fishing club is appealing for local businesses to step forward with financial support.

The club, which is based at Minsthorpe Community College, is hoping to raise enough sponsorship to buy matching t-shirts for when they compete in fishing competitions and matches.

Kerry Daley, mum of club member Jordan Hall, said the students would love to look more professional when taking part in events.

The team, which meets every Tuesday at Owl Barn Fishery in South Kirkby, has 16 members, including one female, aged between 13 and 16.

Three teams of student anglers entered last year’s NFA Schools National Angling competition in Retford, coming in fourth, sixth and seventh. Jordan came in top of the Minsthorpe entrants and finished 6th out of 105 anglers.

The students receive no funding from the college due to the number of after school clubs that are already held.

Ms Daley said: “The club is currently funded out of a teacher’s own pocket and it would be great if some local businesses could step forward and show their support for the students.

“The students just need a bit of sponsorship so they can buy some t-shirts for when they go to the fishing nationals and that sort of event.”
