IT’s official - the countdown to Christmas has started as the shops are all full of toys, gifts, and seasonal treats.
But not every parent can afford expensive presents for their youngsters, which is why we are appealing to our generous readers to help to make sure underprivileged children can enjoy the festive period.
The gifts will be distributed to children’s centres across the south east by Wakefield Council’s family support team, based in Hemsworth.
We are asking people to donate a new, unwrapped toy for children aged between 0-17.
Gifts for teenagers are especially important, as they tend to be forgotten about more than the younger children.
The toys will be donated to children who might not otherwise receive a present.
South Elmsall town council has kindly let us use its social centre, on Westfield Lane, as a drop off point for the gifts. They can be dropped off Monday to Friday between 9am and 3pm,
Hemsworth Town Council has also allowed us to use its facility on Bullenshaw Road from 8am and 6pm Monday to Friday, and between 10am and 2pm on Saturdays. Donations must be made by Friday, December 7.
