HARD-WORKING lunchtime staff at Northfield Primary School have received an award for promoting healthy eating.

The cooks were presented the Eatwell award on Tuesday at the school on Northfield Lane, South Kirkby, and were delighted with the recognition.

Kitchen manager Brenda Brookes said: “We always try to encourage the children to eat healthily so offer lots of salads and vegetables. And if a dessert does not have fruit in it - we serve it on the side.”

They make fresh and healthy food daily at the school to ensure children are getting the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables a day.

Mrs Brookes said: “It is nice to know we are appreciated.”

The Eatwell award is a healthy eating award launched by the Community Food and Health team for Wakefield District and Wakefield’s Environmental Health Department.

Schools which promote healthy food choices are eligible to apply for the award.
