A SCHOOL netball team has won a title that will take them on to represent Wakefield in a top tournament.

The team at St Joseph’s Primary, in Moorthorpe, came first in a tournament in the Catholic school partnership in their area.

They faced six other teams - and won for the first time in a decade.

And as well as receiving a trophy, the children will now represent Wakefield in the next tournament.

Helen Keniwell, PE co-ordinator and year one teacher, said: “The children are really excited. They have been training since they were about year three and they’ve really blossomed.

“It’s really nice that all they’re hard work has paid off.”

The pro-active team have also worked hard with fundraising activities and managed to buy themselves a new kit, which they played in when they won the trophy.

If they win the next tournament they will go on to represent Yorkshire.

Miss Keniwell also thanked coach Pat Shakespeare for her loyalty to the school and team.
