STORIES from around the world were brought to life for young readers embarking on a summer challenge.

South Elmsall library officially launched the summer reading challenge with a special storytelling session last Wednesday.

The challenge is part of a national campaign which aims to inspire more children to get reading.

Children are rewarded with prizes, certificates, medals and a special lanyard if they read up to six book overs the holidays.

At the event, youngsters listened to stories from across the globe, sang and took part in arts and crafts activities at the Barnsley Road library.

Centre manager Marcia Adey, said: “We had great feedback from parents and everyone really enjoyed it.

“One of the parents said it was a nice change for the children to be able to make lots of noise in the library.”

To take part in the summer reading challenge, children need to register at their local library.
