Give local children a gift this Christmas

Donations are continuing to flood in for this year’s Christmas toy appeal.

Generous residents have handed in hundreds of gifts to help make sure underprivileged children in the south east of the district have a happy Christmas.

The appeal is being run in partnership with South Elmsall Town Council, the Westfield Centre Food Bank and the Express.

Clare Baxter, town council clerk, said: “The toy appeal is doing fantastic - I think we have had the best response since the toy appeal began. The toys will go to local children, making sure every child has something to look forward to on Christmas morning.”

Gifts should be new and unwrapped so that they can be distributed to the right child. Toys can be dropped off at the Westfield Centre, Westfield Lane, during opening hours. They can also be donated at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre, Bullenshaw Road, from 8am to 6pm Monday to Friday and from 10am to 2.30pm on Saturday.

The closing date for donations is 1pm on Friday, December 18.

Anyone who needs help from the appeal can drop into the Westfield Centre food bank on a Friday from 10am to 2pm or to the Early Help Hub in Fitzwilliam from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
