The Senior Cup final that might have been takes place this Saturday when Frickley Athletic take a break from their Evo-Stik League campaign.
Lee Morris’s men travel to take on the Shaw Lane team that pulled out of last season’s county cup final at late notice, denying the Blues players the chance to play a game at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane ground last April. This time the fixture will be in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy with kick-off on Saturday at 3pm at the Shaw Lane Sports Complex in Barnsley.
After all the changes in personnel since last summer it will be a much changed Frickley team from the one that would have played in the final and an expected tough test for Morris’s new look side. Lane may be one division below them, but can field a strong team as they are top of their league with 31 points from their first 14 matches.
Frickley have just signed a player from Shaw Lane with forward Joe Thornton joining at the end of last week. Another new addition is Will Wells, a central defender signed from Guiseley on loan until the end of November, who is also available to play in the FA Trophy.
