PLANS to build 12 new homes on the site of a former care home in Upton have been submitted to Wakefield Council.

Proposals to demolish the former Meadow View Care Home, School Street, and build new houses on the site were validated by council bosses last week.

Work is already underway to build 18 new homes on Peters Close, just off School Street, and plans to demolish the former care home and build a dozen three-bedroom properties on the site have now been submitted by The Priory Group.

In a design and access statement, RJ Design, acting on behalf of the applicant, said: “The development will ensure that the existing building will not fall into disrepair and become unsightly.

“Buildings quickly become dilapidated once empty and become an eyesore in the local area.”

The new homes would be a mixture of detached, semi-detached and townhouse properties and each would have off-road parking for two vehicles.

Members of the public have until December 14 to make comments on the plans.
