Football mad Glass Houghton youngster Jay Jones has seen his talents lead to him signing a deal with Rotherham United.

Jay, 8, of Kings Street, was spotted by scouts while playing for Castleford Town.

Scouts from the South Yorkshire club were so impressed they offered him a place as part of the club’s academy for next season.

Proud mum Sarah, 29, said: “I am so proud of him for earning the right to be given this opportunity.

“He is absolutely mad on football and he was well-chuffed when Rotherham offered him the chance to play for them.”

Jay was spotted while playing during a game for Castleford Town against Barnsley.

The Smawthorne Henry Moore Primary School pupil then started training with Rotherham before he signed for them.

Miss Jones added: “He plays football seven days a week and even when he’s not playing or training he’s thinking about it.

“The main thing is that he is enjoying it and he just absolutely loves to play.”
