SOUTH KIRKBY residents enjoyed a family fun day on Sunday when they took part in a variety of games and sporting activities.

There was a bouncy castle, bbq, face painting, raffles and even a mums versus sons football match.

A lucky couple also won a top prize of two Leeds United football tickets.

The event took place at Common Road I&N School field.

It was organised by South Kirkby Colliery Football Club to raise cash to send the junior team to Germany next year to take part in a tournament.

They raised £1,300 at the fun day, but need around £6,000 to cover all costs.

Club secretary Bob Dutton said it was a great day.

He said: “There were 100 people there at least, and everyone said how much they enjoyed it. It was brilliant.”

The club will try to raise the rest of the cash from subs and teas made on match days.

Mr Dutton said it would be a great opportunity if the youngsters are able to go and compete abroad. If any business would like to sponsor them, please contact Mr Dutton on 0773 3174206.
