A flood warning has been issued for parts of Pontefract and Ferrybridge after heavy rain.

The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for Wash Dike following torrential rain overnight and this morning.

A spokesman said: “Rain is forecast to continue until early afternoon. There is the possibility that this rain could contain some heavy bursts, before clearing and coming dry by the evening.

“The smaller watercourses have responded to last night rains and are higher than normal.

“There is the possibility of surface water problems across the area.”

In North Yorkshire, the A1 was closed this morning due to flooding in the roadworks area near Catterick.
