SPARKLERS, Catherine wheels and toffee apples will be abundant across the Express area as bonfire night is celebrated.
Upton Rugby Club, on Quarry Lane, is holding a bonfire tomorrow night.
It will be lit at 6pm and fireworks will follow later in the evening. There will hot food, including pie and peas and a barbecue, as well as a licensed bar.
Under 16s are to be accompanied by an adult and food or drink are not to be taken into the grounds.
There will also be an event at Hemsworth Water Park which starts at 6.30pm on Saturday.
A Guy Fawkes competition starts at 6.45pm and the bonfire will be lit at 7pm, with fireworks at 7.30pm.
There will also be a firework display at Notton Village Hall Sports Field, on Saturday, November 5. A funfair, bar, and a variety of bonfire night food will also be on offer. The bonfire will be lit at 7pm, with fireworks at 8pm. Tickets are £3.50 for adults and £2.50 for children and are available from Notton Post Office. All proceeds go to local charities.
South Elmsall is also holding a firework display on Saturday, November 12. This takes place at Minsthorpe Community College’s playing fields. This starts at 6.30pm.
Despite it being a fun family night, police are warning people of the dangers of the evening.
Insp Jackie Turton, of the South East Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Some young people will involve themselves in some mischief, and this can cause hurt, harm, loss and may amount to criminal activity.”
She asked retailers to be responsible regarding the sale of fireworks, alcohol, eggs, flour, spraypaint, as these have all previously featured in complaints involving local residents, especially the elderly.
