Dozens of firefighters were this afternoon tackling a serious blaze at a business in Leeds.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service was called to Geldards Coaches on Ashfield Way, off Whitehall Road in Farnley, just after 3pm.

It was not immediately clear what was involved in the fire but a brigade spokeswoman described it as a “major incident”.

Smoke that was billowing from the site could be seen from Morley town centre and Leeds city centre.

Around a dozen crews attended the incident from stations including Morley, Hunslet, Stanningley, Gipton, Batley and Pontefract.

Whitehall Road was reportedly closed between Lawns Lane and Branch Road, with traffic being diverted via Gelderd Road.
