Firefighters tackled a blaze at the Superdrug Stores distribution centre last night (Monday).

The fire began in a 15ft cardboard compacter machine in the warehouse at Stadium Way, Dale Lane, South Elmsall.

Crews from South Kirkby and Pontefract were called to the centre at around 7.15pm, where they found the machine ablaze.

They used large jets and hose reels to extinguish the fire before removing all packaging from the machine and dismantling it.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the machine, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Noone was injured and the building had been evacuated prior to crews arriving.

Crews left at around 10.15pm.
