HEMSWORTH Arts and Community College pupils will be given the chance to shine when they attend their very own awards ceremony.
Hundreds of prizes will be given out at the Station Road school’s annual event tonight.
Pupils who have demonstrated progress and excellence will be celebrated as well as youngsters who have shown outstanding achievements in sports, vocational and personal experiences.
Other important awards include the Dave Sharp Fantastic Kid Award - named after a man who was principal of the college for 34 years - a Community Service Award and the principal’s award for services to the college.
Principal Pam Massett said: “The college is very keen to recognise the importance of achievement across all areas of college and this awards evening demonstrates publicly the excellence and talent of students across all years.”
Tonight Year 7 pupil Lee Fryer will be presented with the Paul Bullamore Award for the student who triumphs in the face of adversity.
Year 8 pupil Taylor Hammond has been awarded the Croft Cup award for outstanding sportswoman.
In year 9 Leah Needham has won the progress awards for geography and ICT and Emma Laws has won the progress awards for history and music.
In year 10, Adam Wilson has won the sporting excellence award and in year 11 James Goodlad has won the Canon Duckitt English Prize.
At the awards ceremony there will be performances by pupils in the Music Drama Crewe, and The Concert Band.
Pupils will be awarded trophies, vouchers and mugs for their hard work.
McDonalds, Pinderfields and Pontefract NHS Hospital Trust, Paul Taylor Driving School and Rockingham Trophies were just a few of the sponsors that have helped the event.
