VOTES are being counted at the Wakefield Council elections and mayoral referendum.
Wakefield Council has 21 of its 63 seats up for grabs. The council is currently made up of 40 Labour seats, 20 Conservatives and three Independents.
In Ackworth, North Elmsall and Upton the candidates were Don Marshall for the Conservatives and Martyn Ward for Labour.
In the Crofton, Ryhill and Walton ward, Faith Heptinstall was standing for Labour and Allan Couch for the Conservatives.
Shaun Hodson was the Labour candidate in Hemsworth, with Philip Davies for the Conservatives and Jim Kenyon stood as an Independent candidate.
And in South Elmsall and South Kirkby, Wilf Benson was the Independent candidate while Michelle Collins stood for Labour and Christian I’Anson was the Conservative candidate.
