Police are appealing for information after a woman was assaulted and robbed in Wakefield.

The offence happened shortly after 9.30pm on Friday June 30.

The 30-year-old victim was walking past Sandal Castle. along Manygates Lane towards Barnsley Road, when a man approached her from a ginnel leading towards Pugneys Country Park.

He is described as being over 6ft tall, of skinny build and spoke with an Eastern European accent.

Det Con Holly Speight, of Wakefield District CID, said: “Thankfully the victim wasn’t seriously injured but nonetheless this incident has understandably left her extremely shaken. She has been able to provide a description of the suspect which has been used to put together an e-fit image.

“I would urge anyone who believes that they recognise the man pictured to please get in touch.

“We are also appealing to anyone who was in the area who may have witnessed any part of this offence to make contact.

“The victim recalls seeing a small silver vehicle in the area following this incident and it is possible that the driver or any occupants may have seen the suspect before or after this offence.”
