ROOKIE roadies can now get hands-on live events production experience while gaining a degree at a South Kirkby studio.

The Backstage Academy at LS-Live, Langthwaite Bsuiness Park, has joined forces with the University of Bolton for new fast-track foundation degree. The first of its kind, one-year course focuses on the artistic, creative and practical use of technology for live events and starts in September.

LS-Live is one of the largest purpose-built rehearsal facilities in Europe and has hosted Lady Gaga, Elbow, Kylie and Rihanna.

The course will include modules on lighting, sound, staging and live visuals, as well as production design and specialist skills such as handling lasers and using 3D technologies.

Robin Watkinson, chief operating officer at the Backstage Academy, said: “We can’t wait to get the course off the ground in September and we’re really looking forward to working with our first students.

“This foundation degree has been created by the industry for the industry and will be delivered by respected specialists who have worked in live events, alongside a team of established academics.”

Sam Johnson, of the University of Bolton, said: “We’re really pleased to be working in partnership with The Backstage Academy to offer this pioneering new course and we hope those who study it will find it both rewarding and useful.”
