A GROUP of fearless daredevils will be taking to the skies to raise money for a charity close to their hearts.
Express Grassroots columnist Colin Dobson, 39, of Marsh Lea Grove, Hemsworth, and a handful of family and friends will be jumping out of a plane at 15,000ft on Sunday, June 10, at Hibaldstow Airfield to raise funds for Motor Neurone Disease (MND).
Mr Dobson will be joined by Paula Maguire, 38, of Hammerton Farm Avenue, Ryhill, Shaun Fox, 48, of Marsh Lea Grove, Hemsworth, Les Fox, 71, of Park Avenue, South Kirkby, Joanne Stringfellow, 42, of Broad Lane, Lucie Bailey, 35, of Edna Street, Nathan Wain, 20, of Addy Street, all in South Elmsall, and Gareth Saunders, from South Kirkby.
The jump has been organised in memory of Brenda Fox - Mr Dobson’s mother-in-law, mum to Shaun and wife to Les - who died from MND aged 62 in 2004 and Ms Maguire’s uncle Stuart Hughes, who died from the disease aged 50 in August 2009.
Since Mrs Fox’s death, Mr Dobson has raised thousands of pounds for the Brenda Fox Tribute Fund, which is supported by the Motor Neurone Association by taking part in cycle rides, a cheeky calendar and naked snow pictures.
Mr Dobson said: “I think it will be a fun day and it is all for a good cause but I have to admit I am dreading actually having to jump out of the plane.”
Ms Maguire said: “I can’t wait - I am really looking forward to the skydive.”
The group is also appealing for others to join them on the charity jump.
The minimum amount of sponsorship is £200 to cover the cost of the jump. Anything above that will go to the charity. To take part you must be aged over 16 and weigh less than 16 stone. To join or for more information, call Mr Dobson on 07912 446836.
