FLOWERS, fruits and vegetables were displayed as part of Hemsworth’s first ever produce show.

Last weekend’s event showcased some colourful delights sourced from allotments and gardens around the area.

Local people flocked to the community centre to view the pieces, which were put together as a preview show in preparation for a bigger competition next year.

Amanda Moulton, community development manager at Hemsworth Town Council, said: “It was an astounding display of produce, a really good display. There was fruit, vegetables, and all different kinds of flowers.

“We’ve got so many people that have got allotments in the local area. They should be given the opportunity to show off what they’re growing. That’s the main aim. People should be able to bring their produce for other people to see.”

The town council hope that last weekend’s preview will mean a bigger and better show for next September, which is set to include over 20 different categories of entry as well as a young growers section, with cash prizes up for grabs.

Miss Moulton said: “If people are interested in finding out more details, they should contact us, we would welcome people from all the surrounding areas.

“We hope this will become an annual event.”

Hemsworth Town Council would like to thank main contributor Mr Pead with all his help and support at last weekend’s event.
