Steam engine enthusiasts from as far away as Glasgow flocked to Ackworth last weekend for a vintage rally.

The event, on land near the village water tower, offered displays of military vehicles, steam engines, vintage farm machinery and classic cars and motorcycles.

Hundreds of people visited to the event, which also featured children’s rides, trade and craft stalls and entertainment.

Samantha Schofield, from the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club’s Pennine group, said: “It went really well. The weather was quite bad on Saturday which always affects the turnout but I would say we had about 650 people over the weekend.

“Some came from Glasgow, some from Lancashire and from across Yorkshire.”
