Yorkshire councils have joined forces to block the websites of high interest payday lenders.

Wakefield, Bradford, Leeds, Calderdale, Kirklees and York councils have cut off access to 200 websites offering payday loans on all council terminals, including those in libraries, customer contact centres and staff computers.

People trying to access the sites will instead be directed to a page providing debt advice and information about alternative sources of affordable lending. The payday lending industry was recently referred to the Competition Commission.
