STAFF and students at Hemsworth Arts and Community College are celebrating after getting an award praising its quality of careers education.

The college was awarded the Investors In Careers certificate in recognition of the information, support and guidance provided to students about their future careers.

The certificate was presented to principal Pamela Massett by Nikki Brown, on behalf of Babcock, Wakefield’s careers provider.

The college has now held a careers quality award for the past 10 years.

To get the certificate the college was assessed over a 12-month period, with students, staff, parents and external agencies all being involved in gathering information about the quality of careers education.

Assistant principal Stephen Foster said: “The award recognises the importance that the college places on informing and helping young people select careers.

“It helps build up aspirations and in times of high youth employment makes our students think more carefully about options available to them – in essence we want to help give the edge in terms of job opportunities or university places.

“We are very pleased to receive the award.”
