A large audience welcomed Daryl Powell, Danny Orr, Ryan Sheridan, Ben Cooper and Matt Crowther to the Castleford Tigers Supporters Club’s ‘meet the coaches’ evening.

The guests were firstly asked about pre-season training, warm weather training, new signings, squad strength, comparisons to last year, team spirit, contract extensions, club captaincy and injuries.

After a break, questions from the audience covered subjects like A team rugby, under 19s, players who will step up this season, the England set up, referees, kicking and crowd chanting.

Ben Cooper and Matt Crowther then went into detail on how the new equipment bought by money raised by the CTSC would help players’ fitness and recovery, especially helping the recovery from long term injury for Michael Shenton and Ash Robson.

The equipment bought is training technique bags; wooden dowels; resistance and core bands; kettlebells (24kg); treatment bed; leg press and plinth; and pulse recovery system, which helps players recover faster between workouts by reducing muscle soreness and improving circulation. All of it can be used by all players from scholarship to the first team.

A cheque for £4,000 was presented to Daryl Powell, taking the total raised and donated to the Castleford Tigers from the members of the CTSC since 2004 to £71,147.58.

Daryl and his coaching team thanked everyone for the support, while a further £192 was raised on the night.

The next CTSC event is a members only ‘meet the directors’ evening on Tuesday, March 8, £1 admission.
