Unemployment in Hemsworth continues to rise

The number of people claiming out-of-work benefits in Hemsworth rose to its highest in nine years last month.

There were 2,816 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) in the area in February, the latest figures from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) have revealed.

This is 142 more people who are unemployed than January’s rates.

The latest figure is the highest number of people out of work in the area since 2004 when 967 were claiming JSA, an increase of 66 per cent in nine years.
