Long-STANDING fundraisers in Hemsworth have been rewarded for their hard work and efforts.

Members of the Hemsworth branch of the Royal British Legion received awards at a presentation evening last week.

Certificates were awarded to those with five or more years service and three of the group received poppy broaches for 20 or more years service.

Former poppy appeal organiser Jean Price, Leslie Wheater and Renie Wheater were all presented with the broaches for their commitment to the appeal.

Mrs Price, who is now the branch chairman, said: “We just wanted to say thank you to everyone for helping us with the appeal over the years.”

The group will be launching this year’s appeal with a service on October 26.

Mrs Price said: “We took over £10,000 last year and we’ve never been behind the year before so there’s a lot of work to do.”

If anyone would like to join the branch or get involved with selling poppies they can contact Sue Kent on 01226 780526.
