A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after five armed raids on shops and petrol stations across the district.
Police said a 41-year-old man was arrested today and remains in custody.
On one occasion, a masked robber held a terrified shop assistant at a Glass Houghton petrol station at knifepoint before fleeing with cash.
The raid - one of five similar robberies over five consecutive days – was carried out at the Shell Garage, on Front Street, at around 8.50pm on Thursday.
A man burst into the store brandishing a knife before threatening a member of staff and making off with cash from the till.
Raids – during which the robber threatened staff with either a knife or a screwdriver – were also carried out at the Spar convenience store, Wakefield Road, Ackworth, on Friday night and at the BP Service Station, Barnsley Road, Ackworth, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
There was also a robbery at the One Stop Shop on Station Lane in Featherstone on Monday night and at the One Stop Shop, Stockingate, South Kirkby, on Saturday night.
No-one was hurt in any of the raids.
