Beginning to look like Christmas

Dedicated volunteers have been packing and sorting food for our Christmas Hamper Appeal 2015.

A team of people from The Rotary Club of Wakefield Chantry, Ackworth School and the Express came together to start packing the mountain of food, generously donated by our readers and local organisations.

The appeal - run in partnership with the rotary club, Community Awareness programme (CAP) in Wakefield and the Express - is helping struggling families across the district by providing them with a parcel of food and toys to make Christmas a bit easier. Last week, volunteers made up 300 hampers, which were delivered, along with 100 completed hampers that had been donated, to the first four Early Help Hubs at Hemsworth, Pontefract and Knottingley, Airedale, and Stanley.

The second lot of 300 hampers are being packed and delivered this week, along with a further 100 that were donated as finished hampers. The appeal is expected to have reached its ambitious target of 800 parcels by the end of the week.
