KITCHEN staff in Moorthorpe have been presented with an award for their hard work in teaching children about healthy eating.
The staff at St Joseph’s Catholic School, on Barnsley Road, received an Eat Well Award from Wakefield Council’s environmental health department, which runs the scheme alongside the Community Food and Health team for NHS Wakefield District on Tuesday.
The accolade was given to the kitchen staff for their work in promoting healthy meals and treats to encourage children to eat a well-balanced diet.
Margaret Boulton, kitchen manager, said: “We are a cooking school and we try to choose menus that offer children healthy versions of what they like to eat. Some of the children take a bit of encouraging but they have taken quite well to it and are enjoying what is on offer.
“We give them lots of healthy options and offer lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. We were really pleased to have received the award, it is lovely to know that your efforts are appreciated.”
