A WOULD-BE thief was left empty-handed after attempting to rob a betting shop in South Elmsall.
The man approached a female member of staff at Betfred, Westfield Lane, and asked her to open the safe before demanding money from the till.
She refused to hand over any cash and the man’s balaclava, which was covering his mouth, slipped off and he tried to cover his face with a plastic bag.
The man then made a final demand for money before leaving empty-handed.
The suspect was described as white, in his late 40s, around 5ft 7 inches and of medium build. He had fair hair with prominent blonde or ginger eyebrows.
He was clean-shaven and had a ruddy complexion.
He was wearing a dark coloured zip-up fleece with the collar turned up and the balaclava, which was black or navy blue.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened at around 7.30pm on Thursday, December 29.
