Attempted robbery at bookmakers

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an attempted robbery at a South Elmsall bookmakers last night (Thursday).

The incident occurred at the Betfred shop, Westfield Lane, at around 7.30pm last night when a female worker was approached by the suspect and asked to open the safe before demanding cash from the till.

The staff member refused to hand over any cash and after making a final demand for cash the suspect, who was wearing a balaclava, left empty-handed.

He is a white male, late forties in age, 5ft 7” to 5ft 8” in height, medium build with fair hair and prominent blonde or ginger eyebrows. He was clean shaven and was described as as having a ruddy complexion. The balaclava was black or navy blue in colour and the suspect was thought to be wearing a dark coloured zip-up fleece with the collar turned up.
