Firefighters were called to a suspected arson attack at a former swimming pool in South Elmsall this morning (Friday).
Crews from the town’s fire station attended the blaze at the former pool on Westfield Lane at around 10.30am.
A fire service spokesman said: “Somebody had broken in and lit a small fire in the corner but it looked a lot worse than it was because the building was quite heavily smoke logged.
“We had to use breathing apparatus to locate the fire but it was only a small one.”
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police said the fire brigade are investigating the incident.
He added: “The fire service have confirmed this was a deliberate ignition and they are looking into it.”
