PUPILS at Hemsworth Arts and Community College achieved the best results ever with a 76 per cent pass rate for gaining five or more A*-C grades.
Among those celebrating were 16-year-old Lauren Buet gaining two As, eight Bs and three Cs.
The pupil, from West Street, Hemsworth, said: “I am so pleased with my results. They weren’t what I was expecting at all. I thought I would get Bs and Cs so this was a lovely surprise.”
Her friend Jessica Lister, also 16, exceeded her predicted grades as well, gaining one A, six Bs, three Cs and a D.
She said: “I am so happy and will be celebrating tonight.”
Headteacher Pamela Massett said: “My congratulations go to all the students for their well deserved success, and thanks to all the staff, parents and governors.”
But only 43 per cent of those who passed gained five or more A*- C grades including maths and English.
And she said this was something the college would be looking into.
Mrs Massett, said: “I was very disappointed with the English results as they did not correlate, at least two grades difference for pupils. For example, a pupil that got an A grade in one paper, was given a C grade in the second paper.
“They seen to have been marked very harshly and we have already taken this up with the exam board.”
