JON Trickett has reacted angrily at new figures which show an increase in the number of families who have never worked.

The numbers - released by the Office of National Statistics - show an increase of more than seven per cent over the past year of families who have not worked.

The Hemsworth MP said: “One year after the Government’s work programme started, we’ve seen the number of people out of work in the Hemsworth constituency go up by a huge 7.7 per cent.

“Now we learn the number of households where someone has never worked has hit an all time high.

“It’s fresh proof that the Government’s welfare to work reforms are now in chaos.”

He said this was the reason for the government spending an extra £9 billion on dole payments and housing benefits.

Mr Trickett hoped something would be done to resolve the issue.
