TEA, cake and a good old knees-up helped raise £600 for the Poppy Appeal and celebrate the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion.

The Hemsworth branch of the RBL held a tea and cake afternoon and a concert featuring Thornbury ACF Band at the Hemsworth Town Council Community Centre as part of celebrations to mark the anniversary.

Branch chairman Jean Price said: “The tea and coffee afternoon was absolutely fantastic.

“The concert went very well and was attended by the Mayor of Wakefield and her consort, Jon Trickett and the chairman of the Town Council, Tony Upson.

“It is important to mark the anniversary - not just to remember the people that lost their lives in the world war, but to ensure the people that are fighting today are in the forefront of everyone’s minds.”
