GIRL guides were not the only ones to lend a hand when they were given cash to help their group.

The First Moorthorpe Girl Guides group, based at St Joseph’s Catholic School, were awarded £828 from Wakefield Council.

The much-needed money will help keep the group going by helping pay for the lease of the school hall. It has also funded new equipment, such as camp blankets and arts and craft equipment.

Donna Hayes, who helps run the group, said: “The grant will help us as we can use fundraising money to pay for days out and other useful equipment

“We were all happy and excited to have received the grant as we were a new group and starting with nothing.

“We would like to thank the local authority, councillors and local shops who  donated to our fundraising event at Christmas.

“The girls really enjoy the group and it’s great for them to meet new friends so when they go to secondary school they already have friends there.”
