A GROUP that has helped scores of bereaved people deal with their loss is hoping to raise enough cash to hold a party to celebrate their tenth successful year.

The Young at Heart club is based at The Grove, South Kirkby, and was set up by Anne Bond after her husband Colin died.

Mrs Bond, 67, found it difficult being alone and started the group to offer support and friendship to other people like her who had lost a loved one.

There were only six members when it first started but that has now risen to more than 80.

Members meet weekly and also go out on day trips and holidays.

To celebrate its tenth year, the group are hoping to raise money to mark the milestone in style.

Mrs Bond, of, Brooksfield, South Kirkby, said: “Over the years the group has given people a reason to get out and about and builds up their confidence.

“We share experiences and try to help each other. It has taught me, and I hope many of the members, that it is possible to smile and laugh again.”

They are holding a table top sale at St Mary’s Church, Doncaster Road, South Elmsall, on Saturday from 10am until 1pm.

There will be tombola, cake stalls, tea and coffee as well as new items for sale.

The group meets on Thursdays from 10.30am until noon.
