FEBRUARY

17 - Watercolour demonstration by Ryhill Arts Society at St Paul's Church, Chapel Street, Ryhill. From 7pm, admission 3.

17 - Entertainment, raffles and an auction will take place South Kirkby Royal British Legion, Mill Lane, from 7pm to 11pm. Event will raise money to send the Hemsworth Miners' Welfare U16 girls' team to a match in Wales.

18 - Tribute acts at Moorthorpe Recreation Club from 7pm. To raise money for the family of Upton soldier Rifleman Luke Farmer.

MARCH

4 - World Book Day at Hemsworth Library, Market Street. Starting at 10am, the morning will include book discussion and coffee, freshly made smoothies and family history taster.

The afternoon will include Nintendo Wii and nail art for adults, storytime, family history session, crafts for toddlers to 10-year-olds and nail art for children aged 10 and above. For more information telephone 01977 722270.

GENERAL

Anyone under the age of 16 or over the age of 60 can swim for free at Minsthorpe and other Wakefield Council run swimming pools. To participate in the scheme youngsters must complete an activate leisure card form, available from all council leisure venues. The activate leisure card, which is free of charge, will allow the cardholder access to free swimming until March 2011 so long as they are 16 or under.
